Whist is the grandmother of every trick game, with the Shepherdess at your side against the Widow Hale and the Pardoner. No bidding, just follow suit, trust your partner, and take the tricks. Play solo or live at the open tables, free in your browser, no ads, no sign-up.

How to play

You each get thirteen cards and the dealer’s last card turns up to name the trump. Follow the suit led if you can; if not, any card goes and a trump beats them all. The highest trump, or the highest card of the suit led, takes the trick and leads the next. When the thirteen tricks are done, every trick past six is a point, first side to five.

Tips

Lead your long suit to draw out the trumps and set your low cards up as late winners. Return your partner’s lead, and keep count of which suits each player has shown void.
