Brick Breaker is the arcade classic by candlelight: an ember, a brass rail, and endless walls of illuminated tiles. How to play

Move the brass rail to keep the ember in play; where the ember strikes the rail decides the angle it leaves at, so the edges send it sharp and the middle sends it steep. Break every tile to fell the wall and raise the next. Catch the falling favors: one broadens the rail, one tempers the ember’s pace, one kindles a second ember. Lose the ember three times and the night ends.

Tips

Angle is everything: catch the ember off-centre to send it hunting the corners, and steepen it only when the wall is thin. Send it behind the wall when a channel opens and let it rattle the top rows. Favors are worth a small risk, but never a candle; the ember comes first.
