About Amazons

Amazons is the modern territory classic, played against the Reeve on a ten-by-ten board: four queens a side, no captures, and a board that burns away square by square until somebody cannot move. Every game ends; there are no draws at all. Play solo or live at the open tables, free in your browser, no ads, no sign-up.

How to play

A move is two slides in one breath. First your amazon glides like a chess queen — any distance, any of the eight directions, through empty squares only. Then, from where she lands, she looses an arrow that flies the same way; the square it strikes is burnt for good, and nothing may enter or cross it again. The square she just left counts as empty for the arrow. The player who finds no legal move on their turn has lost — the last player able to move wins.

Tips

Think in rooms, not moves: every arrow is a wall, and the game is decided by who is walled into the bigger share of the board. Never let a queen be sealed into a small pocket early, and when you fence the enemy in, fence them into a space with fewer squares than yours — then simply outlast them, move for move.
