About Nine Men's Morris

Nine Men’s Morris against the Hayward is the oldest board in the parish, cut into cloister seats and church porches: place your nine men, close a mill, and take his. Play solo, or take a seat at a live, rated table. Free in your browser, no ads, no sign-up.

How to play

First place your nine men on the points, turn by turn; then slide them one step along the lines. Close three of yours in a line to form a mill and take an enemy man, though a man in a mill is sheltered while any loose man stands. Worn to three men you may fly to any empty point. Fall below three, or find your men sealed with no move, and you lose.

Tips

Build a running mill, two mills sharing one shuttling man, to break and reform a mill every turn and skim a man each time. Fight for the crossroads points, which touch the most lines and the most mills.
