Kakuro, the crossword of sums: white cells take the digits one through nine, every across and down run must reach the sum its dark clue cell prints, and no digit repeats within a run. How to play

Each dark cell’s numbers name the runs beside it: the upper number is the sum of the white cells reading across, the lower the sum reading down. Fill every white cell so each run reaches its sum with no repeated digit. Tap a cell and then a number to write it; the pencil keeps small candidate notes, and wrong arithmetic is inked in oxblood the moment it appears.

Tips

Learn the anchored sums by heart: 3 and 4 in two cells, 6 and 7 in three, 16 and 17 in two, 23 and 24 in three; each has a single set of digits. Work where a tight across run crosses a tight down run, since their shared cell often has one legal digit. Long runs near forty-five leave out only a digit or two.
