About Briscola

Briscola is Italy’s dearest card game, two-handed against the Potboy, played with a forty-card pack. No duty to follow suit, and sixty-one of the hundred and twenty points takes it. Play solo or live at the open tables, free in your browser, no ads, no sign-up.

How to play

A card turns beneath the talon to name the briscola, the trump for the whole game. You hold three cards and need not follow suit. The trick goes to the higher card of the suit led unless a briscola falls, then the highest briscola wins. The ace counts eleven and the three counts ten, so those are the cards worth taking.

Tips

Hoard your briscole, aces, and threes; capture the fat cards with a cheap trump rather than a high one. Only twelve briscole exist, so count the ones that fall and you will know when yours is safe.
